Visa application with Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)

Long-term and working visa should in principle be applied with a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE).
The application for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is made by your sponsor in Japan (employers, university, school, relatives etc.) at the nearest regional Immigration Services Agency of Japan. After receiving the CoE, a visa application must be submitted to the Japanese mission abroad.
Note: You MUST apply for your visa and enter Japan within 3 months of the issued date of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

Required documents
Please submit all documents in A4 size paper as copies except for the documents requested in original.
Do not staple or paper-clip your documents.
1. Valid passport (Original, at least 2 blank pages) and copy
- Copy of page with personal data is sufficient.
2. Completed original application form with photo
- Citizens from the CIS states as well as Georgia and Ukraine need to submit 2 application forms and 2 photos.
- Please ensure to write your contact details (email, telephone number) and your signature and to answer the questions on the second page.
- Photo: frontal photo, no scans or copied passport photos; 45mm x 35mm, not older than 6 months and not damaged
- If a field is not applicable, please write "N/A" or "None".
3. Non-German and non-EU citizens: valid residence permit for Germany (Original) and copy (front and back), and green supplementary sheet "Zusatzblatt" if applicable
- Fiktionsbescheinigung is also accepted. (Please ensure that you are allowed to leave Germany with it.)
4. Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
- Printed copy (front and back) of original paper Certificate or printout of digital CoE.
Please note that additional documents may be requested to complete your application.
